The part that is specific to this service
What a sign-in does and does not say
When you sign in to a site with Blind-ID, we confirm that a genuine government-issued ID was presented from a phone wallet and give the site an identifier for you that is the same every time you present that ID there, and different at every other site.
A sign-in is not an identity check on you. The site does not learn your name, your age, or anything else from your ID, except the over-18 answer at a site that is registered to check age. Nobody learns who you are.
It cannot rule out everything. We verify a credential, not a body. We cannot detect someone using an ID that is not theirs, someone who has handed their account to another person, or someone acting on another's instructions. A person with two IDs can appear as two people at a site. What the sign-in does is make operating at scale expensive: every account needs a distinct, real, government-issued ID behind it. It is not a guarantee about any individual, and must not be presented as one.
One person, one ID
You may only present an ID that was issued to you. Using someone else's, or signing in on another person's behalf, is a breach of these terms.
Nothing about you is kept here
We keep no account for you and no record of which sites you use. That is a promise about what we store, set out in the privacy policy, and it has a consequence you accept by using the sign-in: an ID with a new document number is a new person to every site, and we cannot reconnect it to anything. Recovery of an account after your ID changes is between you and the site.
For sites that offer the sign-in
If you register a site in the developer console, these terms apply to your site as well as to you, and the following is part of what you agree to.
- What you receive. An identifier for each person at your site, and nothing from their ID unless your site is registered to check age, in which case the over-18 answer and a signed record of the check. You will not attempt to learn more about a person from the identifier than it says, and you will not combine it with another site's data.
- What you tell people. You will keep a public, current privacy policy and terms for your site, and you will show them to people. The name, logo and privacy policy you register are what a person's wallet shows them when your site asks for their ID, so they must be yours and must not imitate anyone else's.
- Lawful use only. You will use the sign-in and the age check only for lawful purposes and only where verifying that a real person or an adult is behind an account is genuinely necessary for your site. Businesses that the wallet providers' acceptable-use policies prohibit may not use the service.
- The wallet program. The sign-in runs under Google Wallet's digital identity program, which requires us to notify Google of each site and its use, and to stop a site's sign-ins promptly if Google tells us to. If that happens, new sign-ins at your site pause until the matter is resolved; people already signed in to your site are unaffected, because their session is yours. We will tell you what we were told, pass on your response, and restore sign-in if the request is withdrawn. Keep another sign-in method available if your site cannot tolerate that pause.
- Limits. Sites have a monthly sign-in allowance and rate limits, shown in the console. Age checks are an add-on with their own terms, shown when you turn it on.
- Your responsibility. You are responsible for what your site does with what it receives, and you will indemnify us against claims arising from your site's use of the service.
Everything else
Agreement
By using IRLProof or Blind-ID you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Eligibility
You must hold a government-issued ID in a supported phone wallet, and must have the legal capacity to enter this agreement. A site must be registered by someone with authority to bind it.
Acceptable use
You must not:
- present an ID that was not issued to you, or that you are not entitled to use;
- use the service to impersonate any person or organization, including on the name and logo a site registers;
- attempt to circumvent limits, or to learn more about a person than the identifier says;
- probe, scan, disrupt, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service;
- use automated means to sign in or to register sites.
Availability
The service is provided as is and as available. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of it. Where we can, we will give sites notice before a change that affects their sign-in.
No warranty
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from reliance on a sign-in or an age check by you or by anyone else. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Our content
The service, its software, and its branding remain ours. These terms grant no license to them beyond using the service as intended, including the sign-in button as the developer documentation describes.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate access, or a site's registration, for breach of these terms, for abuse, or where the wallet program requires it. A site may delete its registration at any time; a person may simply stop using the sign-in, since nothing of theirs is kept here.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms and will change the date at the top. Continued use after a change means you accept it. Material changes will be announced on the site, and sites will be asked to accept them in the console.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. Any dispute arising out of them will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we each consent to that venue.
